A treat for the senses – stylish dining in your mobile home

Anyone who thinks that life on a camping holiday offers neither culinary nor visual pleasure couldn’t be more wrong. A few simple tips and the right accessories will help you enjoy culinary variety and a fine atmosphere in your caravan and beyond.

Tip 1: Pack a basic food supply

To prepare a tasty meal, you first need the basic ingredients that will allow you to tickle your taste buds. There’s no need for exotic herbs – simply keep the essentials such as salt, pepper, sugar, honey, oil and vinegar in your caravan or motorhome. With these kitchen staples, you pave the way for culinary discoveries.

Tip 2: Versatile foods such as potatoes

Forget the idea that on holiday you can only eat meagre meals if you’re on a budget. Energy-givers such as potatoes, pasta and rice can easily be used to make a proper dish. All instant varieties, like couscous or rice noodles, are perfect for a delicious evening meal as well.

    Tip 3: Meal planning

So you don’t find yourself hungry and at a loss with just your basic provisions, plan your holiday week(s) in the motorhome with meals that can be prepared in a small space and with just a few kitchen utensils.

Red lentil dishes, ham pasta, or a colourful tabbouleh are easy to prepare in one pot: after adding couscous to boiling water and letting it swell for ten minutes, simply chop your choice of vegetables directly into the same pot. Then season with salt, pepper, or a pinch of exotic spices (see Tip 4).

Dishes turn out especially well with the Omnia oven, for example. Almost anything you can make in a fixed oven can be cooked in it too. The baking dish consists of a steel ring, an aluminium mould and a lid. The lower ring sits directly on the gas burner. It’s always useful to have a couple of leftover recipes up your sleeve as well.

If you end up with too much bread at breakfast, turn it into bruschetta (toasted bread topped with tomatoes and olive oil) or a bread salad (torn bread with tomatoes and oil & vinegar) the next evening.

Tip 4: Be brave with local produce

With your core supplies on board, you can now set out on new culinary adventures. Let yourself be inspired by the range of regional produce at your holiday destination and add, for instance, exotic herbs or unfamiliar vegetables to your planned meals. The couscous dish mentioned above tastes wonderful combined with a different type of mint and a dash of lemon.
