    A coupling head connects the trailer drawbar to the towball of the towing vehicle. The coupling mechanism surrounds the towball and transmits the towing and nose forces. Stabiliser couplings have additional friction pads to dampen snaking and pitching and to stabilise the outfit while driving.

    AL‑KO VT offers coupling heads and stabiliser couplings for unbraked and braked passenger car, transport and utility trailers. When choosing, take the permissible gross weight, nose load, drawbar connection and towball diameter into account.

    Coupling heads for light and medium trailers

    The AK 7 is suitable for unbraked trailers up to 750 kg permissible gross weight. For braked trailers, the AK 161 up to 1,600 kg and the AK 270 up to 2,700 kg are available, among others.

    The steel couplings WW 8, WW 150 and WW 220 cover trailers up to 2,200 kg depending on the model. Different versions allow mounting on various drawbar connections. Integrated indicators make it easy to check for wear and correct locking.

    The AK 301 and AK 351 are designed for braked trailers up to 3,000 and 3,500 kg respectively.

    For further applications, robust cast couplings WW 13, WW 20, WW 200, WW 30, WW 300 and WW 350 are available. Depending on the version, they are suitable for trailers up to 3,500 kg and for various private or commercial uses.

    Stabiliser couplings for enhanced driving stability

    The AKS 3004 and AKS 3504 as well as the stabiliser couplings WS 3000 and WS 3500 dampen unwanted snaking and pitching movements. These models are available for braked trailers up to 3,000 and 3,500 kg respectively. They can act as a stabilising device to help meet the requirements for 100 km/h approval. The relevant legal and vehicle-specific regulations always apply.

    A coupling head is the connecting component between the trailer and the towing vehicle. Its coupling mechanism surrounds the towball and secures the trailer during travel.

    Depending on the model, 75 to 350 kg is permissible. The lowest approved value of the towing vehicle, towing device, coupling head and trailer always applies. The exact value is shown on the type plate and in the vehicle documents.

    Before replacement, the gross weight, nose load, drawtube diameter, bolt pattern and approval of the new coupling head must all be suitable. The trailer is secured against rolling away, the old coupling head is removed, and the new model is fitted using the supplied installation instructions, mandatory fasteners and specified tightening torques. Finally, check the locking, safety indicator and freedom of movement.
