Overrun devices for trailers

Safe braking with the right overrun device

An overrun device is the control unit for the overrun brake system. When the towing vehicle brakes, force is exerted at the coupling point. This pushes in the draw tube. Via deflection levers and brake linkage, the trailer's wheel brakes are then actuated. This means the overrun brake supports safe deceleration of the combination.

AL-KO VT overrun devices combine precise brake transmission with a wide selection of designs and weight classes. The housings are hot-dip galvanised. The systems comply with the ECE regulations stated in the catalogue and must be combined with the matching AL-KO wheel brakes.

The right overrun device for your trailer

Which overrun device is suitable depends, among other things, on the permissible gross weight, the drawbar design, the installation situation and the required function.

    Square overrun devices

Square overrun devices are available for trailers with various drawbar profiles. Versions without drawbar profile cover trailer weights from 450 to 3,500 kg. Variants with drawbar profile are also available for ranges from 450 to 3,500 kg. In addition, side-swivelling versions with telescopic handbrake lever and removable models for 950 to 2,600 kg are available.

    V-type overrun devices

The V-shape is available in various weight classes from 450 to 3,500 kg. Depending on the area of use, the product ranges BASIC, PLUS and PREMIUM PROFI are available. These differ, among other things, in the housing, bearings, comfort of operation and equipment details.

    Height-adjustable overrun devices

Height-adjustable models make it easier to adjust for different vehicle and drawbar heights. The catalogue features versions for 500 to 1,000 kg, 850 to 1,600 kg, 1,425 to 2,700 kg, as well as 2,500 to 3,500 kg.

    Special versions and accessories

For special requirements, AL-KO VT offers overrun devices with hydraulic brake transfer as well as models for up to 6,000 kg at 40 km/h. In addition, towing connections, jockey wheel traverses, brake linkage and breakaway cable guides are available.

Frequently asked questions about overrun devices

When braking the towing vehicle, the draw tube of the overrun device is pushed in. The force is transferred via deflection levers and transmission unit to the wheel brakes.

Depending on the design, the catalogue models range from 450 to 6,000 kg. The correct weight class must correspond to the permissible gross weight and the other components of the trailer.

Overrun device and wheel brakes must be compatible. For the function of the breakaway brake, a suitable cable guide and sufficient clearance for the handbrake lever are required. The specific configuration and approval of the trailer are the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer.
