The aCar from EVUM Motors

Originally designed for use in Africa and other developing countries, the aCar has now also made it onto German roads. The sustainable electric commercial vehicle is the result of a research project at the Technical University of Munich—for agriculture and forestry, municipal services, and more.

    Sustainable e-mobility 'Made in Germany'

    Cost-effectiveness combined with environmental friendliness

The aCar impresses above all with its all-wheel drive and electric powertrain. As a 'new type of commercial vehicle', it combines cost-effectiveness with environmental friendliness. Whether in agriculture, trade and industry, for municipal use or during demanding leisure applications: The robust and agile electric transporter is also an economical and eco-friendly commercial vehicle alternative for a wide range of tasks right here at home.

    Sustainable e-mobility for Africa

A research project at TU Munich

The story of EVUM Motors began as a research project at the Technical University of Munich. The aim: to develop a simple, robust and fully electric commercial vehicle for Africa and other developing countries. In the meantime, the project has grown into an independent company, which has been producing the EVUM aCar in series since 2020.

Since its establishment in August 2017, EVUM Motors has focused mainly on the German-speaking market. The company is headquartered in Munich and its production facility is located in Bayerbach near Ergoldsbach in Lower Bavaria. From 2024, the aCar is set to go into international production, extending beyond Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In line with its basic concept, special attention will also be given to developing and emerging markets.

Sustainability and environmental friendliness as a corporate philosophy in e-mobility

    Simply constructed & affordable vehicles

Sustainability and environmental friendliness have always been key drivers for EVUM Motors. The vehicles are deliberately built simply and are designed with resource conservation in mind, with local and environmentally friendly manufacturing close to the customer built into the development process from the beginning. The vehicle must remain affordable to ensure electric mobility is competitive—and can hopefully establish itself in the long term. That’s why EVUM Motors aims to bring a vehicle to market featuring only essential equipment. This means the electric transporter can be produced and financed even in the world’s poorest countries.

The collaboration between AL-KO VT & EVUM Motors

    Solutions for sustainable e-mobility

EVUM Motors sees sustainability as a long-term strategic success factor—not just for itself, but also for its suppliers and partners. For this reason, among others, EVUM Motors works exclusively with reputable European manufacturers, including the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group.

For the aCar, the German established company supplies the rear chassis—together with a drive-capable rubber suspension axle for straightforward integration with EVUM Motors' electric drive and brake system. >Rubber suspension axles from AL-KO Vehicle Technology offer the same smooth suspension as found in the automotive industry. This technology, which has been continuously optimised to this day, enables gentle and stress-free driving with the aCar.

Lightweight chassis from the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group

    Ideal for the aCar

The lightweight chassis from the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group are especially suitable for the aCar by EVUM. The flexible concept behind the chassis allows for modular use of battery packs while providing maximum possible protection for the batteries. Decades of experience and expertise mean the chassis and axle are exceptionally durable and robust—for example, thanks to hot-dip galvanised steel for optimum corrosion protection.

'These are features the EVUM customer base from agriculture, logistics and municipal services truly appreciate. In addition, the planned longer wheelbase allows for open body designs, providing body manufacturers with high flexibility.

The seats, towbar and LED light-bar come from within the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group—specifically Aguti and Sawiko as part of the group,' says Manfred Schmid, Senior Business Development, Light Commercial Vehicles at AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group.

What the managing directors and heads of sales say about the collaboration

Statements from EVUM Motors & AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group

'The aCar is our contribution to making the world a little bit better. Deliberately designed simply with resource conservation in mind, we paid attention to a vehicle concept during development that allows us to manufacture vehicles locally and in an environmentally responsible way, right near our customers. With this concept, we are doing our part to help ensure that global prosperity is distributed more fairly and that people in developing and emerging economies are integrated into the economic cycle. We greatly appreciate the support the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group has provided us along this journey,' say Dr.-Ing Martin Šoltés and Dipl.-Ing. Sascha Koberstaedt, founders and managing directors of EVUM Motors GmbH.

'Quality and high value, together with the durability and robustness of our products, have always been part of our corporate DNA. Accordingly, sustainability is a matter very close to our hearts. For example, in recent years, we have experimented with various materials such as steel, aluminium and glass fibre-reinforced plastic and drawn the appropriate conclusions. For us, steel is the clear choice: from production through to recycling, it offers by far the best CO2 footprint. In this spirit, we are delighted to be making a joint contribution to greater electromobility, sustainability and environmental friendliness in the commercial vehicle sector with EVUM Motors GmbH and the aCar. We are especially pleased as a corporate group to have Aguti and Sawiko, two other DexKo Global subsidiaries, working with us,' says Karlheinz Spägele, VP Sales Commercial Trailer & Light Commercial Vehicle.
