How to protect your trailer against theft
Theft on construction sites is an unfortunate reality, resulting in significant losses every year. In addition to building materials, building equipment and vehicle accessories such as trailers are increasingly being targeted by thieves. We have gathered information to help you protect your trailer from theft.
Parking your trailer securely
A trailer can greatly simplify day-to-day work on construction sites. However, if it is not needed for an upcoming journey, the trailer is decoupled and parked.
As the saying goes, "opportunity makes the thief," so you should ensure the trailer is not parked in a dark corner. Even if parking is only for one night, always choose a well-visible location. The same applies when parking your entire towing combination. In this case, AL-KO VT experts recommend prioritising security and equipping the trailer with a dedicated anti-theft device. The Safety Compact from AL-KO VT is ideal here. This tried-and-tested solution offers protection both when driving and when stationary.
You will also need the Safety Ball: it complements AL-KO VT anti-theft devices on the coupling head during stationary operation. This hard plastic lock is inserted into the coupling head when decoupled and blocks the towball from being inserted – effectively preventing unauthorised coupling.

Commissioning your trailer safely
Not only is secure parking of your trailer important,
but also safe usage afterwards. If the trailer has been out of use for a longer period, check for coupling wear and make sure the coupling head connects properly.
For increased security, upgrade to the AK 161 or AK 270 coupling heads for braked trailers up to 2,700 kg. The internal safety lever can only be operated when the trailer’s coupling head is properly positioned on the vehicle’s towbar, ensuring the coupling is securely locked and preventing false locking.
Optionally installable pressure lock
The optionally installable pressure lock is an effective safeguard against quick access, whether the trailer is coupled or uncoupled. It is also strongly recommended that you check the trailer for roadworthiness before use. Also check that all lights are working. Unfortunately, damage from parking bumps or even deliberate vandalism is not uncommon.
