A holiday with a caravan offers freedom and independence, something many travellers truly value. However, while the journey to dream destinations is often filled with excitement and anticipation, manoeuvring the caravan at a campsite, in the driveway at home, or into winter storage can become a real challenge. This is where the increasingly popular manoeuvring systems come into play: they don’t just make manoeuvring easier—they actually make it fun!
What is a caravan manoeuvring system?
Put simply, a manoeuvring system is an electronic aid that allows a caravan to be moved without the need for muscle power or a towing vehicle.
These systems are typically mounted on the chassis or at the wheels, and make it possible to move, turn, and position the caravan with both precision and ease. They are especially useful on sloping, uneven, or tight campsites, or when the caravan needs to be parked in a specific alignment.
The drives mounted at the wheels are mostly operated via a remote control. For onlookers who haven't seen it before, the caravan appears to move as if by magic—often resulting in surprised or amused reactions from neighbouring campers.
Which manoeuvring systems does AL-KO VT offer?
At AL-KO VT, you can choose between two different manoeuvring systems:
The fully automatic MAMMUT and the semi-automatic RANGER.
Both models can be retrofitted to the vast majority of caravans without issue. However, we do recommend having the installation carried out at one of our customer centres or a specialist partner workshop, as the installation process can often be somewhat complex.
AL-KO VT MAMMUT
The MAMMUT provides outstanding precision and manoeuvring comfort thanks to its unique joystick remote control and advanced engineering. There is also a variant available for use on commercial trailers.
The millimetre-precise control and the ability to effortlessly spin even heavy or long caravans 360 degrees on the spot make MAMMUT an indispensable travel companion.
The MAMMUT can overcome obstacles up to 4 cm in height and tackle gradients of up to 28 per cent (single axle) or up to 15 per cent (tandem axle). It is suitable for single-axle caravans with a permissible gross weight up to 2.5 t and tandem-axle caravans up to 3.0 t.
AL-KO VT RANGER
The RANGER is suitable for single-axle caravans up to 1.8 t or tandem-axle caravans up to 2.5 t.
Like its "big brother" MAMMUT, it also allows precise manoeuvring and can rotate the caravan 360 degrees on its own axis. Obstacles up to 2 cm in height or gradients of up to 18 per cent pose no problem for the RANGER.
Since the RANGER is operated manually via a hand crank, which does require some mobility and strength, we recommend it for people without physical limitations who don't mind a bit of a workout before parking.
Who is a manoeuvring system suitable for?

- Solo travellers: Manoeuvring a caravan can be a laborious task for individuals. A manoeuvring system allows them to position the caravan effortlessly and in complete control, without needing help from others.
