    A coupling head connects the trailer’s drawbar with the towball of the towing vehicle. The mechanism encloses the towball and transfers both pulling and nose forces. Stabiliser couplings are additionally equipped with friction pads. These damp snaking and pitching movements, stabilising the combination while driving.

    AL-KO VT offers coupling heads and stabiliser couplings for unbraked and braked car, transport and utility trailers. Key selection criteria include the permissible gross weight, nose weight, drawbar connection and ball diameter.

    Coupling heads for light and medium trailers

    The AK 7 is suitable for unbraked trailers up to 750 kg permissible gross weight. For braked trailers, options include the AK 161 for up to 1,600 kg and the AK 270 for up to 2,700 kg.

    The steel couplings WW 8, WW 150 and WW 220 cover trailers up to 2,200 kg, depending on the model. Various versions allow installation on different drawbar connections. Integrated indicators make it easy to check for wear and correct locking.

    The AK 301 and AK 351 are designed for braked trailers up to 3,000 kg and 3,500 kg respectively.

    For other applications, robust cast couplings such as the WW 13, WW 20, WW 200, WW 30, WW 300 and WW 350 are available. Depending on the version, they are suitable for trailers up to 3,500 kg and a wide range of private or commercial uses.

    Stabiliser couplings for greater driving stability

    The AKS 3004 and AKS 3504 as well as the stabiliser couplings WS 3000 and WS 3500 dampen unwanted snaking and pitching movements. These models are available for braked trailers up to 3,000 kg and 3,500 kg respectively. They can serve as stabilisation devices for meeting the requirements for a 100 km/h speed approval.     A coupling head is the connecting component between the trailer and towing vehicle. Its mechanism encloses the towball and secures the trailer while driving.

    Depending on the model, 75 to 350 kg are permitted. The decisive factor is always the lowest approved value among the towing vehicle, towbar, coupling head and trailer. The exact value is shown on the type plate and in the vehicle documents.

    Before replacement, ensure that the gross weight, nose weight, drawtube diameter, hole pattern and the approval of the new coupling match. The trailer must be secured against rolling away; remove the old coupling head and install the new model in accordance with the installation instructions using the prescribed fastening parts and tightening torques. Afterwards, check locking, safety indicator and ease of movement.
