Tiny House by Wöhltjen: the individualist

The dream of your own home – changing lifestyles require new housing concepts. Mobile mini-houses are trending: for many people, independence and freedom have become ever more important during the pandemic.

A solid foundation is essential for living on wheels. The chassis from the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group are the first choice for many tiny house manufacturers. They stand out thanks to a modular frame concept which allows for different body lengths and bespoke structures. Hot-dip galvanised chassis components provide reliable corrosion protection. Because the precision of the chassis is so exact, the body can be pre-assembled with an exact fit. Additional quality features appreciated by tiny house manufacturers include a sliding axle module, a patented chassis connection, heavy-duty support legs, integrated lighting, a pre-stressed steel frame, as well as the EU Certificate of Conformity for mounted series chassis. Decades of experience in manufacturing high-quality running gear components for trailers and intelligent production concepts form the basis for the superior quality, durability and carefully considered product solutions for every type of tiny house – whether custom, luxury, or standard – on wheels.

    Stephan Wöhltjen and his team

Stephan Wöhltjen and his team in Achim-Uphusen, Lower Saxony, recognised the potential of tiny houses early on and have been manufacturing tiny houses since 2015. Originally a joinery, the company has built a second mainstay with tiny houses. In fact, this was somewhat a fortunate turn of events – as Wöhltjen explains, the idea for the tiny house came about almost by accident. To present their own products with minimal effort and in a realistic setting, the joinery built its exhibition stand in the shape of a small house – which ultimately set everything in motion. Today, tiny houses are firmly established as part of Wöhltjen's daily business and company model.

    Company philosophy

At Tiny House by Wöhltjen, individuality is of utmost importance. The hearts of these joiners beat for fulfilling even the most unique dream of every customer and building each person's dream house. Many customers want to realise their own vision with their tiny house and bring very different ideas. This way, lots of creativity, commitment, and talent at Wöhltjen gives rise to unique, one-of-a-kind tiny houses. For mobile mini-houses, the substructure – the chassis – is crucial. Here, Wöhltjen relies on established quality and therefore on AL-KO Vehicle Technology, which has enjoyed a partnership with the joinery for several years.

    The partnership with AL-KO VT

Thanks to its modular frame concept, which allows for various body lengths, and a standard offering of nearly 20 frame models, the chassis from AL-KO Vehicle Technology are especially well suited for bespoke designs. The diversity of options, high quality, and durability support the joinery in meeting customer requirements for their dream homes. Wöhltjen is particularly impressed with the outstanding quality of the chassis. The frames offer high bending strength and rigidity. Heavy-duty support legs, mounted directly on the frame, allow for onsite alignment. Depending on the axle load, axles and the drawbar can be adjusted. The precision fit of the frame is so exact that the tiny house can be built directly on top.

“The precision of the chassis was a decisive factor why we chose the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group. It means we can work accurately and efficiently. AL-KO is a reliable partner whom we deeply value. Its products meet our high quality standards, which we want to deliver to every single customer with each tiny house,” says Stephan Wöhltjen, master joiner and one of the managing directors of Tiny House by Wöhltjen.

“We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Tiny House by Wöhltjen. We are delighted that our chassis from the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group contribute to the superior quality of tiny houses. The products are carefully thought out and subjected to numerous tests to make mobile tiny houses functional, safe, and stable,” says Pierre Auf dem Brinke, Head of Northern Sales at the AL-KO Vehicle Technology Group.
