Activities and sightseeing around Verona

The Roman amphitheatre, the Basilica of San Zeno, and, of course, the famous balcony from Romeo & Juliet: Verona is (not only) worth a visit for culture vultures! The AL-KO customer centre is located just a few kilometres south of the city, so you can easily reach the centre of Verona from the workshop by car, taxi or public transport. The direct bus (line 52) to Verona’s city centre takes just under 35 minutes.

Things to see in the city of Verona

The city of almost 255,000 inhabitants lies in the Veneto region, and is brimming with history, culture and romance. Verona’s historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to include these must-see stops on your sightseeing tour:

  • Arena di Verona
  • Casa di Giulietta (Juliet’s house)
  • Piazza delle Erbe
  • Ponte Pietra
  • Castelvecchio Museum
  • Scaliger Tombs
  • Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore

World-famous opera performances take place in the Roman amphitheatre Arena di Verona in the historic city centre. This visit is just as rewarding as a stop at one of the most iconic pilgrimage sites for lovers: Juliet’s House with the famous balcony from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. The lively Piazza delle Erbe is surrounded by historic buildings, cafés and various markets. The picturesque Roman-style Ponte Pietra (Stone Bridge) also offers breathtaking views of the Adige river.

The medieval fortress Castelvecchio, with its impressive art collections, is a destination for more than just art lovers. The Scaliger Tombs are among the most important and remarkable examples of Gothic architecture in the world and are a historical symbol of Verona's noble past. The Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore is considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and should not be missed on any city tour of Verona.

No visit to Verona is complete without soaking up the city’s atmosphere in one of its many cafés, trattorias, or restaurants – ideally with a glass of wine, an espresso, and a delicious Italian meal

The nearby surroundings with Lake Garda

It is only a 30-minute drive from Castel d’Azzano to the southern shore of Lake Garda (also known as Benàco), one of the largest and most breathtaking lakes in Italy. It is known for its crystal-clear waters, charming towns and beautiful landscapes. Sirmione on the southern shore, for example, is famous for its medieval Scaliger Castle, thermal springs and picturesque old town. Bardolino is known for its wine production, enchanting harbour and lakeside restaurants. The town of Garda itself on the eastern shore offers a mixture of history, nature and a wonderful panoramic view from the Rocca di Garda.
